Shelley Hamilton, a talented singer/writer/actor, released her first CD Feeling Good, 2004 at the CBC’s Glenn Gould Theatre. Along with the critically acclaimed cd of the same name, Shelley has also created Feeling Good, a one-woman cabaret show that debuted to rave reviews at the 2004 Atlantic Fringe Festival and in Toronto (Yorkville). Her music
video, Cali Alone (that was shot in Costa Rica) aired in 2006 on Bravo Television. Her credits include: CBC’s Rita McNeil & Friends, Anne Murray’s Christmas, The Newsroom, Breakfast Television, and a variety of shows on the Comedy Network. In addition, for several years she has been a featured performer at the Du Maurier Toronto Jazz
Festival.
Shelley has sung in Dubai, Japan, Holland, the Caribbean, as well as all over Canada and the U.S. She is part of the “a cappella” ensemble, The Delightful Divas and is the featured vocalist on the 2003 Juno Award-winning album Allegro, by Warner Music artist Robert Michaels. Shelley is also featured on One World by Jamie Bonk which won Album of the
Year and Best Instrumental Album – Acoustic at NAR Lifestyle Music Awards. She was honoured by a repeat invitation from the Canadian High Commission to return to the Caribbean for a jazz tour of the islands in 2006, including the Ocho Rios Jazz Festival in Jamaica, the Sugar Hill Resort in Barbados, and jazz concerts and workshops in Trinidad (2006 & 2007). Her rich, fluid interpretation of music blends contemporary & original elements of Latin jazz, soul, and pop.
Her performances in the Africville Suite concert with Joe Sealy at Neptune Theatre in Halifax, (July) and the 25th Anniversary of the Black Cultural Centre also in Halifax (June) brought her back to the her home-town roots. While in Toronto, Shelley has been lending her magnificent vocals to the Classic Albums Live series of concerts: Bob Marley
(Legend), Rolling Stones (Some Girls) and Prince (Purple Rain). This very talented and busy vocalist has also written and recorded a new 3 song cd release titled, Connected, and has featured two of the songs in her one women play, A New Hope.
Most recently, Shelley was honoured by the African Nova Scotian Music Association, winning Artist of the Year for 2008/09 at their awards show on January10th in Halifax.
