S.H.E. The Country Sessions

A black Canadian woman breaking out into the country scene? Not the norm, Shelley Hamilton is out to do just that. An award-winning artist (Juno, ANSMA) & vital part of the music scene both in Toronto and the East Coast, she is as well working to preserve her history through music and song on a musical collaboration with the group “The Afro-Metis Nation” & their album “Constitution” released in 2019. After falling in love with Drake’s song, “Going Home,” Shelley decided to try her own spin on this iconic song, revamping it into a country/dance hall version sung from a female perspective with Stella Panacci. With the help of musicians Ben Healey & Tim Bovaconti, she was able to bring her vision to life. "Hold On We're Going Home" with video by Justin Carter, was released on October 2018 & her single "Settle" on the album SHELLA was performed for CTV Morning live in May 2019.

With the eclectic musical roots she had growing up in Nova Scotia, she is grateful that the music - from Charlie Pride to Ray Charles, Sam Cooke to Freddy Fender that her dad "forced" her to listen to, weekly episodes of "Sing Along Jubilee" thrown in for good measure, & the occasional kitchen party, developed her ears to be this stage in her career to give tribute to her roots by writing and collaborating in this vein, and is truly excited to develop her own musical style in a genre that is now expanding to allow her to be a face and a voice in the field.
