I have been away from social media for a few ... I just find these days we need the break. When I came back, I was saddened to hear that a #CanadianBlackShero #icon had passed. I was honoured to work with her when I was a newbie starting in Toronto at a jazz event, and I remember being in such awe the whole time I couldn’t speak to her, but when she hugged me it was all power, grace, and love. #ripsalomebey and my deepest condolences to @sate_warrior and her family #riseSister #blackCanadianMusicHistory

A great soul❤️

Happy Friday everyone! It’s nice to have good news about music come your way for us! I’m doing work with this new amazing organization- if you are an artist you should check out this interview and our COLLECTIVE Music Nation it’s all about lifting one another up in music right now, and even though it’s been hard for artists right now, it’s feels good to be a part of the “new musical landscape we’ll be creating. Congrats to Tim Fray & our organization CMN!!

Getting here... hard. Even posting this... hard. I am grateful to be creating again. Writing again. Recording again. Singing again. Trying to find my voice through this madness. To be brave as a black woman to sing my truth in country music. Hell - in all music. Those who know me KNOW I have been telling the stories of Black Canadians for a lifetime. In theatre. In music. In workshops & conferences. I don’t have a choice. The ancestors speak and I am wise to listen. And my indigenous and black ancestors from beyond have more to say… And they know YOU are listening. So as they come… I’ll keep telling their stories. And hey main stream music - my ancestors KNOW people want to hear them through us. And others like me are speaking - Brave brothers and sisters all. I suggest you listen - what they are doing through art - should make your spine snap upright in pride as a Canadian. #thanks @randyjamesdrummer for just saying “yeah let’s do it” #makingMusic #inTheStudio #newmusic #blackcountrymusic #blackcountrywoman #singer #afrometis #roots #music #healing #myPeople #blackandproud✊🏾
